Jesus Healing

Jesus’ healing miracles are typically thought to be instances of God’s kindness and mercy wrought through the power of God the Son. That is certainly true—the miracles exhibit the love and compassion of God, as well as God’s power, and thereby are remarkable in and of themselves. But they are far more than mere medical marvels. The healing miracles are signs that point us to spiritual truths.

Healing miracles in the Bible, particularly by Jesus, demonstrate divine authority over sickness, demonic possession, and death. Key examples include healing leprosy (Matthew 8:1-4), restoring sight to the blind (Mark 10:46-52), curing the paralyzed (Mark 2:2-12), and raising the dead, such as Lazarus (John 11:1-44). These acts often emphasized the role of faith in healing.

God’s healing promises are meant to inspire hope in every believer. Whether we are personally experiencing illness or walking alongside a loved one who is sick, we can hold fast to the truth of Psalm 41:3: the Lord sustains us in our weakness and restores us from our bed of illness. This is not just a physical restoration, but a spiritual one, where God’s presence brings peace, healing, and wholeness.

As we reflect on this truth, we are reminded of the importance of staying connected to God’s Word and relying on His promises. The Bible is full of verses that speak to God’s faithfulness in healing and restoration, and it is essential that we meditate on these truths in times of difficulty.

Heavenly Father, I come to you in prayer, knowing that you are the LORD who heals me (Exodus 15:26). I ask that you take away sickness, infirmity and pain from me and restore me to health (Psalm 103:2-3). I thank you for sending your Son into the world, who drove out evil spirits with a command and cured all who were sick (Matthew 8:16-17). Your love and compassion have not changed (Lamentations 3:22-23). You are the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). I ask for your Holy Spirit to flow through me and for the destruction of Satan’s work in my life (Ephesians 6:12). I bless you, Father, and forget none of your benefits. I trust in your promise to forgive all my sins and heal all my diseases (Psalm 103:3). I believe that by Jesus’ wounds, I have been healed (Isaiah 53:5). I give you all the glory and praise (Revelation 5:13). Amen.
